I am a freshman in high school that enjoys drawing and illustration. Below is a random mix of portfolio work and fun/practice stuff originally posted for portfolio assessments… I will be updating this website soon. I was fortunate to study art at The Art Students League in New York City for four months back in 2023 with Mark Gonzales, Charles Nitzberg, Sonomi Kobayashi and Frank O'Cain. The Art Students League has a long history as it was founded in the year 1875… yes… that is a 1 and 8 !!! You can feel the history as you walk through the halls. Jackson Pollock studied here and dripped paint on the floor. Norman Rockwell, Georgia O’Keeffe and Lee Krasner studied here plus so many other influential artists from all over the world.

[ STYLIZED ACRYLIC PORTRAIT ] The below stylized character painting was created during a session with a live model at ASL.
[ STILL LIFE DRAWINGS ]
[ LIFE DRAWINGS ] The below life drawings were drawn during sessions with live models at ASL.
[ SELF PORTRAITS ] me… i think…
[ CHARACTER DRAWINGS ]
[ ROUGH LINE DRAWINGS ] The below speed line drawings were drawn during quick pose sessions with live models at ASL.
[ ONE LINE DRAWING ] This is a continuous line drawing from observation of a live model. The object od the exercise is that once you start drawing, you can not lift the pen from the paper until the drawing is finished. To the eagle-eyed… there is a “slip up” across her belly where the pen did not leave ink because the pressure was not quite enough but on the actual paper there is a very faint line indent… whew ! ! !
[ EXPERIMENTAL DRAWINGS ]
[ DAY 1 ] My first day at The Art Students League on 57th street in New York City (July 25 2023).

[ FASHION DESIGNS ] The below 5 fashion design illustrations were drawn as part of a fashion design application portfolio and NOT for my art portfolio. The first assignment was to design a POP display for a department store and the second assignment was to design 4 complete outfits from imagination and illustrate the front and back of the designs.

☼ Smokey Fashion Series #1, 2023 ☼ This pencil and charcoal piece is from a recent fashion illustration class and drawn on 18x24 paper. My FI teacher is really great. Each class is 3-1/2 hours long, VERY high energy and the time goes by so fast. ❤️BethX

☼ Solid Fashion Series, 2023 ☼ Gouache watercolor paint is a very dense opaque water based medium with a lot of pigment and binding agent mixed into the water. I choose black for this series to emphasize the graphic look. It almost feels like you are applying thick acrylic paint to the surface. This type of this paint was used in ancient Egyptian paintings 1000's of years ago however… these paintings here are little newer... from my fashion illustration class in August. ❤️BethX
IG comment >> fa***rx >> Love the movement of this and the solid silhouette. ❤️
IG comment >> ma***on >> I love your subtle use of highlighting. A great example of “less is more”. It would seem that you know what you are doing! I look forward to seeing your continued evolution as an artist.

☼ Déjà vu , 2023 ☼ This is a copy... no... a rendition of a painting I saw in the Museum of Modern Art painted during a abstract medium class using oil pastels. ☼ Déjà vu , 2023 ☼ This is a copy... no... a rendition of a painting I saw in the Museum of Modern Art painted during a abstract medium class using oil pastels. ☼ Déjà vu , 2023 ☼ This is a copy... ☺ ❤️BethX
☼ Koi 2, 2023 ☼ This painting is from a different watercolor class with a different teacher than Kio 1 below combining both both wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet techniques. I decided to change the style from Kio 1 and add more environment. ❤️BethX
☼ Wish This Hard Chair Was A Soft Couch, 2023 ☼ This is a charcoal pencil sketch done in a "color abstract painting" class. I took this lab because it gave me an extra hour every day with a live model to get more life sketching experience since the poses change every few minutes. ❤️BethX
IG comment >> 9a***74 >> Wow this is pretty neat! it almost looks like you used one-line drawing technique it’s pretty cool, nice !
IG comment >> no***go >> This is so beautiful 😍
☼ Short Poses 1, 2023 ☼ These are some short pose sketches with a live model from my fashion illustration class using a graphite pencil on a very textured paper. We only get about five minutes before the model changes her pose. I had so many sketches with missing body parts because I ran out of time. Maybe I should have a double expresso before class. ❤️BethX
☼ Brother, 2023 ☼ This painting is the second in a series called Brother and Sister done in my portrait class with acrylic paints. The models had to sit still for long periods of time without moving. Can you guess where the pose timing clock was? ❤️BethX
IG comment >> ma***on >> I think you captured the long “moment”. I can feel the model’s discomfort and sense of determination. For me, that is what true art is - something that evokes thought and especially feeling! I think you have tapped into one of your gifts.
IG comment >> ki***py >> You've caught the impatient expression perfectly!
☼ Country Girl, 2023 ☼ This pencil sketch is from an open lab for "abstract color painting". I took this lab because it gave me an extra hour every day with a live model to get more life sketching experience. The poses change every few minutes. The teacher's color abstract paintings are absolutely amazing... so vibrant and colorful. The first day I met him I am sure he was wondering why this new girl in his lab was sketching the live model with a pencil and not painting with lots of color in a more abstract style like all the other students. He observed as I drew for a while, smiled at me and then said "What are you doing here". Art is art is art??? ❤️BethX
IG Comment >> ma***on >> I find the facelessness draws my attention to the subject’s body language, sparking my curiosity about what she might be observing as she sits in repose. Is she waiting or just watching the world go by? Nicely done!
IG Comment >> ma***.1 >> This drawing has a nice fluidity of line. Also conveys a feeling of impishness by the positioning of the shoulders
IG Comment >> pa***er >> Love! simple yet saying so much with so little!
☼ Yellow Top Series, 2023 ☼ Here are a couple short pose sketches with a great live model from my fashion illustration class using a graphite pencil and CrayPas. I... want... those... shoes ! ! ! ❤️BethX
IG comment >> fa***rx >> I love the different layer treatments and the exaggerated proportions.
WEBSITE comment >> ro***om >> You definitely have the makings of the next generation of young and very talented artist in media, fashion, grafic or in architecture. Pursue what you feel the most and it will find you. Keep at it Beth, the world needs your beautiful talent.
WEBSITE comment >> to***om >> I like your work and sketches. Nice job with the site. All the best with the journey.
☼ Eurasian Blue Tit, 2023 ☼ This painting is from my second watercolor class using the wet-on-dry watercolor technique. Unfortunately, I can't take this bird painting home and put it on the wall as I have two cats. The teacher is totally cool... he likes Bob Ross! Obviously this is not painted in the style of Bob Ross because if it was, there would be a second bird to keep the first bird from getting lonely. 😄 Can you spot the "happy little accident(s)"? ❤️BethX
IG comment >> ma***on >> Yep, BRR - Bob Ross Rules! I am a nature lover and love what you have created here. It reminds me of our chickadees which are curious creatures like you have portrayed.
IG comment >> ki***ng >> Certainly vibrant and stunning!
IG Comment >> ma***.1 >> Loved choice of subtle colors here
IG Comment >> ya***ut >> This one is so pretty.
IG Comment >> nu***ns >> Awesome!!!
WEBSITE comment >> mi***om >> Amazing art. You have a amazing eye for details and depth. Love to see more. Please keep this going.
WEBSITE comment >> pa***rg >> I may not be an artist, but I know good art when I see it and, having looked through your portfolio page, you have created some truly beautiful pieces of art. I was blown away by how good your pencil sketches are, but I particularly loved your watercolor of the Eurasian Blue Tit! It is clear through your work that you have a great talent for making art, but it is equally apparent (especially through your descriptions of each piece) how much love you have doing it. Creating art can sometimes be a scary thing to do because you are taking a piece of yourself and sharing it with the world, and that's not always an easy thing to do. However, I also believe that good art should be shared with the world and, from what I can see, you are a very good artist! If this is something you really enjoy doing, then I hope you continue to take these classes and create more art in the future! Speaking from my own experiences, you don't want to look back ten years from now with regrets about what could have been. I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do going forward and I hope you have a great year of 8th Grade and beyond! And maybe one day I can tell my future students that I once taught the great fashion designer/artist
WEBSITE comment >> li***rg >> I viewed your artwork this evening and I am very impressed with your attention to detail and skill level.
My own child, an artistic seventh grader, also viewed your art with me and found themselves inspired. They know what it’s like to sit with a piece of your own art for so long that you only see your mistakes; you are your harshest critic. You need to listen to the bystanders who are able to see your talent and skill. Last I will leave you with this, if you apply to the art high schools, you may get it and you may not, but if you don’t apply, you only have a chance of not getting in. You’ve got loads and talent and nothing to lose! Go for it! Have a great year!
☼ Koi 1, 2023 ☼ Here is a painting from my very first watercolor class. This lesson focused on the wet-on-wet watercolor technique where you dampen the paper first before painting on it. What difference learning to paint with quality watercolor tubes, an enamel butcher tray and nice paper compared to my past experience with I was younger using a paint set from a dollar store on photocopy paper. When I started practicing the technique making color swatches in class, it reminded me of the patterns on a Koi fish so… I painted a Koi fish. ❤️BethX
IG comment >> la***mv >> The use of color and technique in this piece is incredible 👏🏽
IG comment >> th***15 >> Really like this one! Watercolour is not an easy medium to master but you've done a great job here!
WEBSITE comment >> a1***om >> I am both surprised and pleased to see such quality on the pictures shown. Keep up the good work.
☼ Live Model 1, 2023 ☼ This pencil crayon sketch is my first attempt at drawing a portrait. I never worked with a live model before this so it was a brand new experience. I didn't originally plan to draw the full profile angle but when I returned to the studio after getting a drink of water, there was only one remaining seat position left. ❤️BethX
